Ewhurst Villas, Exwick Road.
In July 1987, the home of Frank Kelland, was finally demolished after a planning battle that lasted for three and a half years. The house at 163 Exwick Road suffered problems with subsidence – the building was said to be slipping down the hill towards the road. The planning problems resulted in the Secretary of State for the Environment being consulted twice to decide what would replace the house. Permission was given for two new four-bedroomed houses to go on the site. Mr and Mrs Kelland moved out after 30 years, leaving their memories of the giant sunflower that towered over the roof, to live in Winchester Road.
